Pomegranates: They're nature's Sweetarts!
They're in season right now, and I'm seeding them like crazy and eating them as fast as I can. Mmmm! Last Sunday after church, Hubs and I passed some kids selling them for $1/pomegranate. They are $2.50 each at the grocery store, so we bought several and felt good knowing that they were organically grown in the family's backyard!

Note: Seeding the arils is messy business and a good way to stain your clothes. The best way to avoid staining is to immerse the fruit in a bowl full of water and remove the arils underwater. This prevents squirting!
My current favorite way to enjoy this delicious fruit is in a salad:
*grilled portabello mushroom on top of a bed of mixed field greens
*sprinkle chopped walnuts and pomegranate seeds (arils) on top
*dress with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Yum! How long do the seeds (arils) keep before going bad?
An unopened pomegranate will keep up to 2 months in the fridge.
Oh Starshine! I LOVES ME SOME POMEGRANATE!
But I will say that I have never paid for one in all my life. They grow so readily that we have always known someone who had a tree loaded with them.
Last year Eric went to a Pomegranate tasting where he tasted at least 30 varieties. He brought me home baggies of arils of his favorite ones. I never knew there was more then one and some are even white so no staining!
I also love them, but I have been known to pay for them. Not 2.50, though. ;)
I love them in salad, too. Maya eats them with a spoon. Yummy.
we've been enjoying pomegranates at our house, too!
My mom used to call these "Indian Apples" when I was a kid. I haven't had one in years. You may have inspired me to shop for some!! Great blog, btw...
I've never eaten them. Paulie over at Paulie's postcards says she eats the seeds.
Mama Bear
I LOVE pomegranates!! I eat them plain, just tearing apart the fruit and eating the seeds. LOVE them!!
