Operation: String Bikini

Okay, people. It was not too long ago that I said here that I'm happy with my body and that I even like my curves. It's true--I do! I am not skinny, and I never will be. I'm at peace with that. I really am.

However, I am not in the best shape of my life, and both my commercial and theatrical acting teachers have affirmed that it would certainly help my acting career if I shed some pounds. The truth is that I have sacrificed a lot for my dreams, and I am willing to make some more sacrifices (ie. chocolate) to move me closer to realizing my them.

Also, I have the added incentive of knowing that I will be on a beach in Hawaii in just five months. I've never worn a string bikini in my life, but I definitely want to sport one for my man on our honeymoon. So it's time for this sister to kick it into cuervo, and jump back on the weight loss train. Thunder thighs, be gone! Operation: String Bikini has begun. I'm writing this down for the whole world to see: my goal is to lose 15 pounds over the next five months. I'll be posting a weekly update, so you all can hold me accountable.

Advice, thoughts, and encouragement are most certainly welcome along this journey.

Way to go putting it down in your blog! That'll give you the support you need.

Your goal is very realistic. So many people want to lose weight immediately. Slow is best!

Ok this just makes me smile!

I have been debating whether to annouce my wedding/binkini work out plan on my blog because that means I would be somewhat accountable. Another goal is the get the skin a little clearer and um... less dimply (eww).

Good for you!

Can I jump on the train too? I am going for 15 too, and to get my arms to stop waving when I wave.

I think it's a darned shame that someone as thin and lovely as you are needs to lose 15 lbs in order to get the best jobs. That sucks.

Having said that, however, I think 15 lbs in 5 months is a great time frame, entirely doable. The best advice I have heard is to alter your physical activity more than your diet. So rather than giving up chocolate, just cut back on the chocolate, and add some weight training to increase muscle, which burns more calories than fat, and has the added bonus of looking better in a string bikini. ;) Good luck, I'll be rooting for you!

When we were little girls, no one ever told us that part of getting ready for the wedding was losing weight.

They also didn't tell you planning a wedding was a leaf-pile of details that only gets bigger....

I'm thinking that we were lied to as children.

On that note - I wish you all the best in your quest for the bikini-body. I'm thinking some crunches would do me good too.

HOORAY FOR HONEYMOONS!

I think 15 lbs in 5 months is a very reasonable goal. A lot of people think they can lose 2-3 lbs a week (and maybe they do) and get discouraged. I have been dieting for 16 weeks and have lost 11.3 lbs (yes every .1 counts). I made it through the holidays and a vacation to Disney World. Easter is about 9 weeks away and I would like 5 more pounds by then. I will keep checking on your blog to offer encouragement.

I'm rooting for you Tracy. I don't think you need to do it, but if it makes you feel good about yourself, I'm here for you. Do you like cottage cheese? A WW trick I learned (not a fan of the cottage cheese normally) is to take a 16 oz container of low fat or fat free cottage cheese, 1 can of chopped peaches (lite or no syrup) you can also use pineapples chunks and one small container of cool whip FAT FREE. Mix and refridgerate. 1/2 cup per serving. Add a package of sugar free jello mix if you are so inclined. It is a delicious treat that I'd have in place of chocolate any day.

Mmmm. Thanks for the recipe, Dot!

And thanks to everyone for your encouragements!

I feel you, girl. I lost 10 in January, but I've still got 30 to go. Just keep at it every day. I'm not one for little "rewards" along the way. I didn't get to where I am by being "good," so I don't deserve "rewards" until I'm back where I want to be. Stick to it!

Starshine - You are beautiful and you don't need to lose any weight!! I do however understand the desire to look one's best in a bikini and it's a great motivator to get healthier. If it's really pounds your after to lose, I agree with the comments about increasing gym time. Cardio and lifting weights. I personally love pilates (although I have not done it regularly in FOREVER). My mom lost 26 pounds on the south beach diet. I still can't get over her discipline. I'm not suggesting a diet, but I do think the south beach diet has good ideas about healthy v. non-healthy foods.

I couldn't give up chocolate, but today for lunch I refrained from getting a square. Go me! (I'm trying to be healthier too. I want to firm up and get stronger). Eat protien, tons of veggies (carrots are great), fruits like grapefruit, watermelon, leeks, and limit the carbs.

Share healthy recipes along the way!

I echo Buttercup's words. You do look fabulous already but I understand the string bikini desire. Marriage has definitely made me rather plump and happy but I join you in the road to healthier days. Think healthy not necessarily thin. I posted some long overdue comments on your other posts and got back on the blog-wagon (finally). Love ya!

You are pretty, even with your 15 pounds but if you really want to lose them :
THE BEST IS :
Try french food! It helps! :) Vegetables, espcially green ones(with no sauce or only a very light one), only water (no sodas), avoid bread and cheese (Im french, I know, I shouldn't say this). And no CANDIES!!! And good luck!
