Making a Home

I am waiting for our professional wedding photos to arrive in the mail before I write a post about my wedding day. They should be arriving any day now. In the meantime, I decided to show y'all some pictures of what Husby and I have been doing to our place. It is really cool to see how we can combine his and hers to create an ours that we both really enjoy.

Husby has lived and/or spent significant time in Eastern Europe and Italy. In his travels, he collected this neat collection of artwork, which we assymetrically hung on our hallway wall. We decided to flank the artwork on each end with these scrolly wrought iron sconces that we received as wedding gifts:

This big chair and ottoman, which I just refer to simply as "the chair" belonged to my stepdad. Husby and I drove it back from Texas a week and a half ago. I love spending time reading and blogging in it, and it is a nice reminder of John. Husby likes to joke that we have a serious role reversal going in this marriage. He does most of the cooking, and I have an easy chair! The golden framed artwork are from some of the places that I have travelled. The wooden table is Husby's. The black lamp was my mom's. You can probably guess who the purple flowers belong to.

My mom has had a cross wall in her house for years, and well...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? Each of these crosses were given to me through the years by different people.

If these pictures don't make you want to come over and use our bathroom right now, your heart has clearly turned to stone. ;) This is our guest bathroom that continues the shabby chic theme of our guestroom. It is safe to say that nothing about this bathroom (except the labor of painting the walls) came from Husby. He gave me free reign on the design of the guestroom and guest bathroom. Most everything in here was given to us as wedding gifts. Thank you, generous friends and family!

Love your pics. I was thinking that coming over for a glass of wine and a visit was nice, but coming over to use your bathroom? Again, girlfriend, you crack me up. :)

That is awesome. It was so hard for us when we bought our house... we had nothing. I had been living in a bedroom so I brought absolutely nothing, and K's stuff was really old and tired.

That's the cool thing bout you Tracy, you'd post those lovely pics of your bathroom. And yes, I can't wait to use it ;)

I also love the crosses, very cool.

That is so great that both of your things, plus some from your family are able to easily merge together. And what great memories you'll have to be able to sit in John's chair, while reading by your mom's lamp, as you make googly eyes at your husband as he tells you dinner is ready!

The pics are great, the 'day before the wedding' is wonderful and so are all the little stories and quips.

I love that you are bringing us with you for each step along the way.
This appeals so much to the hopeless romantic in me!

YAY!
Someone is actually doing it the way it's supposed to be done, and it's so lovely!

That picture hanging usually lasts for a day or two before J says enough!
