She's an "E" on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Last week was my sister's birthday. Happy Birthday, Jilly!

These are the only three photos I took of her on her birthday, and if they aren't proof of her extroverted personality, I'm not sure what more evidence I can provide. Also? She's halfway through her pregnancy, which means that not only is she the life of the party, but she's also adorably petite as she wins friends and influences people!

I think it's time for some therapy, because I'm starting to have that jealous feeling I did in high school when she was the head cheerleader, and I had to quit the tennis team because I wasn't good enough to make the varsity team my senior year. ;)

Seriously, though, sometimes I just have to laugh because I am the tallest person in my immediate family. My Mom, Dad and sister? All of them are tiny little pocket people! And I'm the Amazon Queen of the family. In case you need proof of this, I went to my sister's house yesterday after an audition to hang out with her and Sam. All I had with me was the dress and high heels I was wearing, and I needed something more comfy. Jilly lent me a t-shirt and pair of sweats she wears when she's pregnant...the pants fit me perfectly...just a little short in the length!

Sigh. I always wanted to be tall. I have this group of friends who are all tall and gorgeous, and when I'm with them, I feel like a dwarf. Good thing they're all so nice. Anyway, one time I wasn't with them, and Janet (5'10") was with Leslie (6'0") and Meryl (6'3"), and Janet said, "Hey, look at me! I'm Julie! I'm petite!" I felt about 110 times better, because instead of thinking of me as short or as a troll, she thought of me as 'petite'. That was the first time it ever occurred to me that someone might not WANT to be tall.

Of course, Janet loves her height. Leslie has grown into it, but hated it in Jr. High. Meryl? Married a man who is 6'5".

And by the way, Jill is adorable, as are YOU.

Jules,

My best friend Anne and I are both tall girls. We met while working on the same team in Spain in 2003. The funny thing is that Spaniards, by and large (pun intended), are a very petite people. Our mutual dear friend calls us "mujertonas", which I can only translate as "big women"! I always felt like such an Amazon woman there...I could only fit into XL sizes!

I remember during my year in Spain traveling to Germany, where the people are generally taller than your average American. Suddenly, I was the petite one, and I loved it!

So funny...it's all a matter of perspective. And most of all, I think it's about loving the body you've got!
